Our Approach

Our Approach

Home > Curriculum  > Teaching and Learning > Our Approach

We use a thematic, cross-curricular approach. We provide an engaging and exciting curriculum to embed the key skills, knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculum.

Teachers plan opportunities for pupils to explore and maximise learning opportunities outside the classroom environment. This includes visits to the local area as well as visits to a range of attractions across London. We also maximise the use of our own garden where children are engaged in a range of activities to ensure they develop an understanding of sustainability and caring for our environment.

Topic overview 2019-20

Y1 The World Around Us Bright Sparks Castles Bears Down at the Bottom of the Garden Journeys
Y2 A Journey of Discovery Wild Weather Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate Fairy tales We can be Heroes Sea you Later
Y3/4 Romans Romans Volcanoes Music Around the World Writing Through Art Ancient Egypt
Y5 All the World’s a Stage Rainforests A Land of Settlers Viking Invasion Ancient Odyssey Eureka: Inventors and Discoveries
Y6 Blitzed Blitzed Sustainability Industrialisation Amazing Americas The Ancient World

Basic Skills

We place a strong emphasis on the development of basic skills. These skills are necessary for lifelong learning. We have ‘non-negotiable’ basic skills outlined for each year group, which are taught and expected to be applied.

Further information on the Curriculum can be obtained from Mrs Corrick – Assistant Headteacher
