Information on different subjects that we teach at Pooles Park.

English

Explore
At Pooles Park we use Talk for Writing in Years 1 and 2. We also follow the Literacy and Language scheme of learning in Years 2-6.

Reading and Phonics

Explore
We follow the Read Write Inc phonics scheme at Pooles Park. Daily phonics sessions begin in EYFS and continue in Year 1 and Year 2.

Mathematics

Explore
At Pooles Park we follow the White Rose Maths schemes of learning. These schemes provide teachers with exemplification for maths objectives and are broken down into fluency, reasoning and problem solving, key aims of the National Curriculum. They support a mastery approach to teaching and learning and have number at their heart. They ensure teachers stay in the required key stage and support the ideal of depth before breadth.

Science

Explore
Science throughout the school aims to allow children a hands on approach to science learning. This is underpinned with a clear understanding of scientific vocabulary and how to use it. Children are also encouraged to ask lots of questions, understanding that they might not have answers straight away.

Computing

Explore
Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems. The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content.

Personal Social Health and Economics Education (PSHE)

Explore
The PSHE curriculum includes units of work on identity, physical and mental health and wellbeing, sex and relationship education, financial capability, drug, alcohol and tobacco education and cooking.

Physical Education

Explore
The PE curriculum provides a range of sport, fitness and competitive activities.

Art and Design

Explore
At Pooles Park we offer an art and design curriculum designed to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. We use the Kapow scheme of work to help us do this.

History and Geography

Explore
At Pooles Park we have recently developed the curriculum to be humanities based. Our new curriculum ensures that all learning happens within a rich and engaging History and Geography context, by which the children learn about the world they live in, the people in it and the times that have come before.

Design Technology

Explore
Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. At Pooles Park we encourage and nurture the creative side of all pupils. We use the Kapow scheme of work to help us do this.

Religious Education

Explore
RE makes a unique contribution to the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils and supports wider community cohesion by promoting mutual respect and tolerance in a diverse society.

Music

Explore
Music at Pooles Park will engage and inspire pupils to develop a love and appreciation of music as well as developing their talent as musicians.

Modern Foreign Languages

Explore
At Pooles Park, children are primarily taught Spanish. Lessons use a range of text book and online resources to promote enjoyment, ensure authenticity and support confidence and participation.
