20 Jul Summer Safety Tips
Dear Parents,
Summer Safety Tips.
Tips to keep your children safe and cool during a heatwave:
- Make sure you never leave a baby or toddler in a hot car
- Make sure children stay hydrated by providing them with plenty of water
- Run them a cool (not cold) bath before bedtime
- Keep your child’s bedroom cool during the day by closing blinds or curtains. You can also use a fan to circulate the air in the room
- Encouraging children to wear loose, light coloured clothing and sunhats with wide brims and to use sunscreen.
- Make sure children avoid vigorous physical activity

Keep your home and family safe on hot days
On hot days, it feels great to open windows and balcony doors to cool off. However, please be aware of the risks in doing so – especially for toddlers and young children – and ensure you keep your home and family safe by:
- Fitting and using safety catches, locks or window restrictors to windows
- Keeping keys to window locks where you can easily find them, in case of a fire
- Keeping beds, sofas and other objects, such as toy boxes, away from windows to prevent children from climbing and reaching windows
- Keeping young children away from balconies, unless they are supervised; keep balcony doors locked when not in use
