19 Oct Bags of Taste Islington
There is a new programme in Islington to help families struggling with food bills.
The programme offers a free course that you can do from home, which gets you cooking healthy meals you can make for yourselves for around 60p a portion.
How it works:
First you will be delivered all the ingredients you need for free, plus a knife sharpener, measuring spoons and a shopping guide. Then you are mentored, usually in a Whatsapp group, as you cook the recipes in your own time over 2 weeks. The mentor gives you links to videos of the recipes and shares tips on things like food storage, knife sharpening, onion chopping etc. Once you have finished the course you will be sent more recipes and you can join a private Facebook or Whatsapp group where you can get videos of many more recipes.
‘We’ve found this has been very successful in helping families save money and eat better. Families enjoy the course and it gives them motivation to move away from convenience food. Most find that they are able to get their children eating vegetables.’
Anyone can register for the course as long as you live in Islington. Please contact Justin Roebuck to give your name and phone number and he’ll give you a call and get you registered.
